Winston cigarettes slogan
04:58, 2011-Feb-4

The famous Winston cigarettes slogan sounds "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should". It other words, it means that no other cigarettes can taste as the Winston cigarettes. Americans cannot live without smoking and the only brand they prefer is the Winston brand. It is a slogan, that appeared in newspaper, magazine, radio, and television advertisements for Winston cigarettes. So, this slogan was the part of the best-known tobacco-advertising campaigns right from the time of the brand's introduction in 1954 until 1972. The best specialists and professionals worked hard over this campaign. For example, Wendell Adams  -  a classically-trained musician wrote beautiful music. The initiators of this campaign oriented it also for separate niche groups apart from the other customers. They were Caucasian smokers, such as American Jews and African Americans. It was useful for some of them as it integrated them deeper into the American society. There is another explanation of this campaign: a piece of America, a real piece of America was shown. These cigarettes are personification of American style of life. These seemingly simple words of the slogan have a very deep sense. Just think it over!

I had just returned from an excursion into the past but in a sense I walked around every day feeling as if I had been transported into the future, a minor character in an impossibly long and plotless episode of The Jetsons. It occurred to me that perhaps only children lived in the present. The rest of us live in the past, our physical selves stumbling through a future that grows more unrecognizable with each passing day.I dried my hands and went back out into the hall. I still had the not quite-finished bottle of Schmidt’s and my staunchly glowing strong French cigarettes. I could hear Frank singing again now:    Try to think that love?s not around    But it?s uncomfortably near    My old heart ain?t gaining no ground    Because my angel eyes ain?t here

And while we're at it, ban those cellphones in the car as well. They just did in Quebec and Nova Scotia. Word on the street has it the Keystone province will do the same in the near future. I say good.If you just left the house, who are you possibly talking to at 7 a.m. with that phone in your ear and cigarettes in your mouth? It's not like you're a doctor or anything. If you were, you'd know better than to smoke! Hang up. You're a hazard to us normal people who are safely driving to our own fluorescent-lighted hell, addicted to our Tim Hortons, even though we could quit if we wanted to.As far as smoking in the car with junior goes, it's just a matter of time before a MASD chapter is formed. I'm talking about Mothers Against Smoking Drivers. Think about it, they don't allow people to light up on a huge airplane because the rest of us don't need to share your vice, so why make the little ones endure it in the car? Flight attendants (a.k.a. sky waitresses) should tell all passengers that "There are two smoking sections on this flight, one outside each wing exit."

And, if you happen to run into Smokin’ Joe Anderson these days, you might notice that smile on his face. Smokin’ Joe and others on New York Indian reservations make their fortunes by selling items that carry high state taxes when sold off the reservation. Of course, the state tax man hasn’t set foot on the rez, at least not yet. So the smoke shop owners make their profit off the difference. Whenever there’s talk of raising taxes on buy winston, especially a tax hike this massive, you can hear their cash registers ringing for miles away. Increase the cigarette tax and there’s that much more incentive for smokers to drive to the reservation from farther away. Oh, might as well fill up on that tax-free gasoline while you’re there.

In their public push for doubling the state Winston cigarettes tax, the health groups would like us to ignore both history and human nature. They would also like us to continue the deplorable practice of using government revenue policy to try to achieve social goals.Concerning history: We must take a lesson from our international neighbors. A massive cigarette tax hike in Ontario in the early ‘90s led to huge cigarette smuggling operations, one of which was centered here in Niagara Falls, N.Y. Canadian cigarettes destined for the U.S. were diverted back to Canada without paying the Ontario tax. The smugglers sold them for close to full price, pocketing the difference. Ontario eventually rescinded the big tax increase, opting for smaller hikes later.

I was against it from the time I heard it would be on the 2006 ballot. I don't smoke, but when I went to a bar I knew that I was going to come home smelling terrible and would probably have to burn my clothes since they would be ruined. That was my choice. Now people I am out with have to go outside where ever we are at to Winston, so to continue the conversation I have to either go outside and shiver in the cold while they smoke or wait inside by myself like some loser until they get back. I think it is violation of people's rights to tell them they can't smoke in a bar, in a place where adults are willingly going. No one is forcing you to go to a bar. You can buy Discount Winston at a lot of bars in Akron - but you can't smoke them there. That makes a whole lot of sense, right?
